A LIFE BETWEEN DREAM AND DRAMA – Documentary Screening and Panel Discussion: Asia Society Hong Kong Center

Kwai Fung Foundation was proud to present the documentary screening of A Life between Dream and Drama and panel discussion co-organized with Asia Society Hong Kong Center, on the occasion of Lalan's retrospective exhibition Extended Figure: The Art and Inspiration of Lalan.

Lalan was an artist who never stopped cultivating her life and pursuing the artistic expression that was faithful to her heart. Produced by Kwai Fung Foundation, the 30-minute documentary includes precious photos and video experts of the artist, provides comprehensive introduction of Lalan's life story and transformative moments of her artistic trajectory.

After the screening, we were delighted to have invited Dr. Yip Shing Yiu, renowned collector of Ming Dynasty furniture, Dr. Lesley Ma, curator of Ink Art at M+ Hong Kong, and Mr. Ambrose Lee, young collector and Chief Strategy Officer of VPower Group, to join Ms. Catherine Kwai, Director of Lalan Archive, for a panel discussion on their perspectives on Lalan's art and approaches to art collection. We were also very honoured to have Mr. Zhao Jia-ling, son of Zao Wou-Ki and Lalan, for his presence all the way from France to spend the evening and share stories of his mother with us.

 

Dr. Yip Shing Yiu    Collector

Dr. Ma is the curator of Ink Art at M+ Hong Kong. Dr. Ma received an AB in History and Science from Harvard University, MA in Museum Studies from New York University, and PhD in Art History, Theory, and Criticism from the University of California, San Diego.

Ambrose Lee is presently the Chief Strategic Officer for a major green power listco in Hong Kong. As a relatively new collector, he is building his collection, mainly interested in modern and contemporary paintings and sculptures by established artists and emerging artists across Asia, Europe and the U.S.
