On 5 December, 2019, Kwai Fung Hin Art Gallery and Bank of China (Hong Kong) Private Banking jointly organized a lecture titled Renaissance of Contemporary Chinese Ceramic Art in the Global Perspective – An Ever-going Challenge conducted by Chinese ceramic artist Bai Ming.
The Chinese ceramic culture began in the Neolithic Age and has since developed for thousands of years. Over the millennia, ceramic art has developed a unique craftsmanship and comprehensive set of traditional aesthetics, and is also regarded as embodiments of the history and culture of China.
By reference of Bai Min ceramic art and his vision, the lecture explored the renaissance of contemporary Chinese ceramic art in the global perspective, and analyzed the contemporary value of ceramics and its integration with tradition.
Bai Ming is widely recognized by the international art world due to his comprehensive and in-depth academic research and artistic practice on ceramics.
Born in 1965 in Yugan, Jiangxi Province, China, he is currently the Director of the Department of Ceramic Art in the Academy of Arts & Design of Tsinghua University and Executive Vice Director of the Art Museum in the Academy of Arts & Design, Tsinghua University. His works are collected by important museums such as the British Museum, Musée Cernuschi, Paris, Musée de Salagon, France, Museum of Art, Architecture and Technology, Lisbon, Portugal, University of Kansas Museum, USA, etc.
