Esteemed collectors Dr. Yip Shing Yiu from Hong Kong and Mr. Chuang Shaw Peng from Singapore will engage in an insightful conversation about the philosophies and stories behind their collecting journeys.
Together, they will shed light on the nuances of collecting, from understanding artists to discovering their personal passions to navigating the art market. By showcasing their unique collections, this talk will also reflect on how artistic expressions and appreciation go hand in hand in shaping the ever-evolving cultural landscape.

Dr. Yip Shing Yiu
Dermatologist and Owner of Dr. S. Y. Yip Collection
Dr. Yip is a distinguished dermatologist in Hong Kong and a renowned art collector known for his world-class collection of Ming Dynasty furniture. He has served three terms as the Chairman of the Min Chiu Society (1988, 2012 and 2020), which was founded in 1960 by a group of private collectors dedicated to the connoisseurship of Chinese antiquities and paintings; he was also the President of the Oriental Ceramic Society of HK from 1993-1995.
Dr. Yip began collecting Chinese art since 1969, initially focusing on paintings, calligraphy, ceramics, and jade wares. He developed a deep interest in Ming Dynasty furniture in 1988, and has since amassed a remarkable collection that is widely recognized by scholars and has been exhibited both in Hong Kong and abroad with published catalogues.
An advocate of the promotion of Chinese culture and advanced education, he is one of the generous donors to the Hong Kong Palace Museum, and has offered education endowments to Harvard University and Tsinghua University.
Mr. Chuang Shaw Peng
Entrepreneur and Collector
Mr. Chuang Shaw Peng is a distinguished businessman in Singapore and a civic leader highly recognized for his contributions in the public and cultural space. A former Nominated Member of Parliament in Singapore, Mr. Chuang has held numerous honorary roles, including Honorary Director of the Singapore Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Honorary Director of Tongji Hospital, Honorary Advisor to the Singapore Confucian Scholars & Merchants Association, Honorary Director of the Singapore Chong Clan Association and Hui Ann Association etc.
As an avid collector, Mr. Chuang is a Senior Appraiser of Chinese Calligraphy and Painting under China's Ministry of Culture and holds the positions of Vice Chair of the Traditional Ceramics Division and Singapore Regional Chair of the Asian Ceramic Society.
His service has been recognized with the Public Service Medal from the President of Singapore in 1999 and the Service to Education Award (Silver) from the Ministry of Education in 2007.
